WordPress is such a popular website platform because of its ease of use and ever-growing list of capabilities – pretty much any site you can imagine can be built with WordPress. But to get the most of your WordPress site you have to choose the right themes and plugins.

One of the great things about WordPress is that it separates the display from the content – you can radically change the look of your site without losing any content by switching themes, and switch right back with a mouse click.

WordPress plugins add features to a WordPress website, such as photo galleries, shopping carts, translators, etc. There are thousands of free and pay plugins (read apps) that you can install on your WordPress site.

Some plugins belong in every WordPress site: some kind of site backup plugin, photo gallery plugin, contact form plugin. My favorites these days are BackupBuddy (pay), NextGen Gallery and Contact Form 7 (both free).

I’m going to be offering tips on how to get the most out of your WordPress site in future posts- if you have any questions, I’ll be happy to answer them.
